POI Data Collector


Employment Type: Freelance Contractor

Project Period: Starting June 2026. Potential for long-term (1-3 year) collaboration based on performance.

Compensation: Piece-rate (Payment based on the number of successfully completed and verified POI collection tasks).

Context & Definitions

  • POI (Point of Interest): A POI is a specific physical location that people may find useful or interesting. For this role, POIs specifically refer to the retail stores, businesses, and high-traffic commercial locations you will be visiting.


I. Job Responsibilities

As a Field Data Collector, your primary mission is to build a high-quality geospatial database. Your duties include:

  • Standardized Field Operations: Follow the collection App’s map and guidance to arrive at designated high-value POIs to record data.
  • Storefront Visual Documentation: Capture clear photos or videos of the store’s exterior for manual quality checks and identity verification.
  • Indoor Signal Fingerprinting: Enter the store to record Wi-Fi signal \"fingerprints\". (Note: No Wi-Fi connection or passwords required).
  • Data Submission & Reporting: Real-time submission of collected data packets, ensuring all fields are accurate and complete. Report any anomalies, such as stores that are permanently closed or non-existent.


II. Candidate Persona

We are looking for proactive candidates who are familiar with their local environment and proficient in operating smart devices:

1. Physical Fitness & Work Adaptability:

  • Able to perform outdoor walking or mobile data collection per day; physically fit for all-weather field operations (Excluding extreme weather).
  • Must be comfortable working independently in various outdoor and indoor commercial environments, as this is not an office-based role.

2. Local Geographic Expertise:

  • Extensive familiarity with your city or major local business districts.
  • Proficiency in using public transportation or providing your own means of transport (e.g., bicycle, motorcycle, or car) to navigate between collection points efficiently.

3. Technical Literacy & Device Management:

  • Possess basic proficiency in smartphone system operations and configuration.
  • Able to follow SOPs to manage App permissions and adjust system-level settings.
  • Hardware: The company will provide the necessary data collection equipment (typically an smartphone).

4. Communication & Legal Compliance Awareness:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to professionally handle inquiries from store staff or security personnel.
  • Strict Compliance Consciousness: Fully understand and adhere to local privacy laws (e.g., GDPR). Ensure that captured images do not include sensitive information such as recognizable faces or vehicle license plates.
  • Strong commitment to work objectives and data quality.
