Setup: Freelance (Daily rate / Limited Company / Umbrella / Sole Trader)
Location: Bologna (3 days per week on-site)
We are looking for a mid-level COBOL Developer to support and enhance core banking systems within a complex financial services environment.
Overview
The client requires an experienced COBOL Developer with a strong background in banking systems to work on core platforms supporting current accounts and critical transactional processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain and enhance COBOL-based applications within a core banking environment
- Work on systems supporting current accounts, payments and transaction processing
- Analyse business and technical requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions
- Perform code optimisation, bug fixing and system enhancements in legacy environments
- Collaborate with analysts, testers and other developers to ensure system stability and performance
- Support production issues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Must-Have Skills:
- 5–7+ years of hands-on COBOL development experience
- Strong experience within the banking or financial services sector
- Proven exposure to Core Banking systems
- Solid understanding of Current Accounts management systems
- Experience working with large-scale legacy systems in regulated environments
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience working on-site in international or distributed teams
- Familiarity with batch processing and high-volume transaction systems
- Italian language skills
