PYP Teaching Assistant

ROLE SUMMARY:
The International School of Como is seeking a caring, enthusiastic and proactive PYP Teaching Assistant to join the school from August 2026.
The successful candidate will support teaching and learning within the Primary setting, working closely with the class teacher to create a safe, engaging and stimulating environment for learners. This role requires patience, energy and a genuine passion for supporting children’s development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the class teacher in delivering engaging, inquiry‑based and concept‑driven learning experiences aligned with the IB Primary Years Programme
Work with individual students and small groups to support conceptual understanding and skill development
Assist in setting up and maintaining a stimulating, student‑centred learning environment that promotes inquiry and agency
Support students’ social, emotional and physical development in line with the PYP learner profile
Help manage classroom routines, transitions and behaviour using positive, restorative approaches
Contribute to observing and documenting student learning, sharing insights with the class teacher
Support students with additional learning needs where required
Ensure a safe, organised and inclusive classroom environment
Supervise students during playtime, learning engagements and school events
Uphold safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Experience working with primary‑aged children
A warm, patient and supportive approach
High expectations for behaviour and student learning
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Energy, flexibility and a proactive mindset
Legal right to live and work in Italy (EU passport or valid work permit)
Relevant Teaching Assistant, childcare or education qualification
Experience in an international school setting
Understanding of inquiry‑based learning and the PYP framework
Experience supporting students with additional learning needs
Italian language skills (advantageous but not essential)
