The successful candidate will oversee the operation and maintenance of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure for Data Centers (DC) in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud regions. Our technicians operate and maintain AWS DCs’ world‑class mechanical and electrical infrastructure. In addition to technical operations and maintenance, the successful candidate will oversee facility operations and ensure the implementation of safety procedures. The role requires a motivated, self‑managed individual who demonstrates initiative and proactively seeks solutions to problems while striving for operational excellence. The work follows a process‑oriented approach: the individual must have a strong willingness to learn new processes and adapt to rapidly changing operational scenarios with conflicting priorities.
Key Job Responsibilities
- SAFETY
- Follow and maintain the highest safety standards and diligently encourage a world‑class safety culture.
- Ensure remediation of safety risks/issues in conjunction with other teams.
- Own the safety initiatives and projects to foster a strong safety culture.
- ENGINEERING & FACILITY OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE
- Operational experience and familiarity with electrical and mechanical equipment, including Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS), Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), Diesel Generators, Chillers, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), Exhaust Fans, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), and Transformers.
- Troubleshoot events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log‑taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.).
- Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance.
- Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required (weight limits in accordance with health & safety regulations).
Working Location
Our data centers are located in remote areas outside Milan, where access via public transport may be limited. A valid EU driving license and a reliable personal vehicle are required.
Work Schedule
This is a 100% in‑person onsite position due to the hands‑on nature of managing mission‑critical infrastructure. The role follows standard working hours (8 AM – 5 PM Milan time, Monday – Friday) with no shift work.
Working Language
The interview process at AWS will be conducted in English, as we are an international team based in the Greater Milan area.
Basic Qualifications
- Professional or formal Electrical Certification or apprenticeship/trades certified or diploma in an Electrical field.
- Demonstrate key electrical competencies (practice & theory) and knowledge of mechanical systems (mechanical, HVAC systems, controls).
- Very good command of English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Data Center/mission‑critical engineering experience.
- Willingness to travel between data center sites, and internationally if required.
- Driving license valid in Italy.
