Field Engineer – Structural Steel

Job Overview
We are looking for a Field Engineer with experience in structural steel engineering and site activities to support a major industrial project in Long Son, Vietnam.
The selected candidate will initially be based at the structural steel fabrication yard to review vendor engineering documentation and monitor fabrication activities. Subsequently, the role will transition to the project site, where the engineer will support the erection and installation of steel structures, ensuring compliance with project specifications, approved drawings, and quality standards.
Main Responsibilities
Engineering & Vendor Documentation Review
- Review structural steel vendor documentation, including:
- Fabrication drawings
- Shop drawings
- Connection details
- Structural calculations and node calculations
- Verify compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, and engineering requirements.
- Coordinate technical clarifications between the vendor and the engineering team.
- Follow up on comments and ensure timely document revisions and approvals.
Fabrication Support
- Monitor fabrication activities at the supplier's workshop.
- Verify compliance with approved drawings and quality requirements.
- Support inspections and quality checks during fabrication.
- Participate in technical meetings with the vendor and project stakeholders.
Site Construction Support
- Provide technical assistance during the erection and installation of steel structures.
- Support construction teams in resolving technical issues on site.
- Review and validate field modifications and site queries.
- Coordinate with construction, quality, and engineering teams to ensure smooth execution of works.
- Monitor erection progress and report potential risks or deviations.
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in structural steel engineering, fabrication, or site construction activities.
- Experience reviewing structural calculations, connection details, and fabrication drawings.
- Experience supporting steel structure erection activities on industrial projects.
- Familiarity with international codes and standards for steel structures.
- Strong ability to interface with vendors, fabrication shops, and construction teams.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Fluent English required.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience on EPC projects.
- Experience in petrochemical, energy, refinery, LNG, or heavy industrial projects.
- Experience working internationally and in multicultural environments.
- Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and quality control processes for structural steel.
Assignment
The assignment will be divided into two phases:
- Vendor Phase – Presence at the structural steel supplier's facility for engineering document review and fabrication support.
- Site Phase – Presence at Long Son project site to support steel structure erection and construction activities.
Start date: August.
The compensation for this role is between €45,000 and €60,000.
The position falls under the scope of the National Collective Labor Agreement for the Commerce and Services sector (CCNL Commercio e Terziario) applied by our company.
Placement within the range will be determined based on technical skills, specific experience in the role, and the outcomes of the selection process, according to objective and neutral criteria.
In the case of profiles with exceptional characteristics compared to the indicated range, a revision may be considered subject to internal approval.
