The Role

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post. Join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a Crisis Practitioner within the South Glasgow Mental Health Crisis Team. In this dynamic role you will deliver compassionate, responsive care to individuals in acute distress, support recovery in the community and facilitate early discharge from hospital.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Full Time, Permanent (36hrs). Base Location: Florence Street Mental Health Resource Centre, Glasgow. Shift Pattern: Operates over 7 days between 0900hrs and 2000hrs Mon‑Fri, and 0900‑1700hrs Sat‑Sun. Long days are available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing assessment, care planning, intervention and evaluation for individuals experiencing acute mental health crisis
  • Deliver intensive home treatment as an alternative to hospital admission, supporting recovery in the community
  • Undertake comprehensive risk assessments and implement effective risk and safety management strategies
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, CMHTs, inpatient services, specialist services and third sector partners
  • Support early discharge from the hospital through effective discharge planning and follow‑up care
  • Supervise, support and mentor junior staff and students, contributing to their development and practice
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure care is delivered in line with legal, ethical and professional standards

Qualifications, Training and Experience

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with NMC registration or Registered Occupational Therapist with relevant UK registration
  • Post‑registration experience within mental health services, including managing complex cases
  • Demonstrable experience in risk assessment and management within acute or community mental health settings
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage effectively across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of mental health legislation, policy and best practice with commitment to continuous professional development
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑paced environment while contributing effectively within a team
  • Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle and basic IT skills for record keeping and communication
