DATA SCIENCE/MACHINE LEARNING JUNIOR SPECIALIST

Job Responsibilities

The selected candidate will join the Maritime Engineering & Research Area, contributing to R&D and innovation projects focused on numerical characterization of ship behaviour and structural/performance monitoring, with a strong experimental and data-driven approach.

He/she will:

• Analyze experimental data using signal processing, statistical methods and machine learning techniques.
• Develop algorithms for signal analysis, anomaly detection and predictive analytics, including machine learning and AI-based approaches.
• Develop and apply numerical models of physical phenomena, including surrogate models (e.G. reduced-order models, data-driven models, ML-based approximations).
• Contribute to data processing pipelines and scalable workflows.
• Participate in R&D projects, occasionally including onboard activities and sea trials (installation, testing, measurements, validation campaigns, troubleshooting and reporting).
• Support the industrialization and operationalization of research results, including deployment of analytics solutions.
• Support proposal writing and development of new R&D opportunities.
• Maintain relationships with project partners and stakeholders.

Requirements

Education

• Master’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, applied Mathematics or equivalent.
• PhD and/or specialization in signal processing, data science, or AI is a plus. xdwybme

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of (in order of priority):
• Machine Learning and Data Analytics techniques
• Modeling of physical systems and surrogate modeling approaches
• Time-series analysis and large dataset handling
• Signal processing (sampling, filtering, spectral analysis, advanced signature analysis)
• Measurement systems, sensors and data acquisition architectures
• Electronics, communication protocols and network systems
• Proficiency in (one or more): Python, Matlab / Simulink, C#, NI LabVIEW
• Knowledge of the following is considered a plus: Deep Learning (PyTorch, TensorFlow), Anomaly detection methods, AI applied to signal processing

Languages

• Fluency in English and Italian.
