We are dedicated to providing equal employment opportunities and fostering diversity in all its forms, creating an inclusive environment. We value the unique experiences, knowledge, backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives of our people. By embracing diversity, we believe science can achieve its fullest potential. THE ROLEYou will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary research group, where junior and senior scientists with expertise in chemistry, materials science, engineering, automation and artificial intelligence collaborate toward the development of next-generation functional nanomaterials. The Automated Nanomaterials Engineering (ANi ME) Research Line, coordinated by Dr. Milena Arciniegas, develops innovative solution-based routes for the preparation of organic-inorganic functional materials through the integration of advanced synthesis, automation and digital infrastructures. The research focuses on the design of layered organic-inorganic materials, understanding the relationship between molecular structure and material properties, and developing automated experimental workflows to accelerate materials discovery. Within the research team, your main responsibilities will be: Design, synthesize and optimize organic-inorganic layered materials using wet-chemistry approaches. Develop new synthetic protocols for low-dimensional and layered materials. Perform structural, optical and optoelectronic characterization of functional materials. Design and execute independent research projects while contributing to collaborative activities within the ERC-funded research programme. Supervise junior researchers, including Ph D students and research fellows. Analyze experimental data, in particular crystallographic data, prepare scientific publications, and present research findings at international conferences. Contribute to the development of innovative experimental methodologies integrating automation and data-driven approaches. Contribute to scientific publications and international collaborations. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSPh D in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or closely related disciplines. Demonstrated experience in the synthesis of organic and inorganic functional materials. Strong experience with layered materials, hybrid semiconductors or related low-dimensional systems. Hands‑on experience in the analysis and interpretation of single‑crystal and/or powder X‑ray diffraction data. Experience with structural, optical and optoelectronic characterization techniques. Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed international journals. Excellent command of spoken and written English. ADDITIONAL SKILLSExperience with layered halide perovskites or other hybrid low‑dimensional materials. Experience with X‑ray diffraction and optical spectroscopy characterization. Familiarity with automation, high‑throughput experimentation or data‑driven materials research is considered an advantage. Experience in thin film formation and surface functionalization Knowledge of solid‑state magnetic resonance imaging is considered an advantage. Experience supervising junior researchers. Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary international environment. High level of motivation, initiative and scientific curiosity. COMPENSATION PACKAGEA yearly gross salary ranging between €38,000 and €42,000 Private health care coverage depending on your role and contract Candidates relocating from abroad or Italian citizens who have carried scientific research activity permanently abroad and meeting the Italian incentive specific requirements, may be entitled to benefit from significant tax deduction reductions for researchers from taxable income of up to 90% from 6 to 13 years. This open position is financed by the European Research Council (ERC) within the EVA‑Tailoring Organic‑Inorganic Layered Structures to Build Functional Graded 2 D Nanomaterials for Advanced Nanointerfaces project. Application’s deadline: September 15th, 2026
