The Environmental Services division of Applus+ is a leading provider of expert environmental and technical advice to clients across a wide range of industries, including water, renewables, infrastructure, marine and ports, transport, construction, and development. Following a significant growth journey, including M&A-driven internationalisation, Ambiente joined the business in May 2026. Ambiente provides a strong platform for expansion, particularly into priority market opportunities in Italy, Continental Europe, and beyond.

A key part of this role will be working with the Environmental Services Division Finance function and Ambiente leadership team. As the lead finance expert for Italy and working alongside Group experts in the UK and Spain, you will be responsible for operational finance, business planning, statutory reporting, and tax and treasury matters across Italy, ensuring the delivery of effective upstream governance and reporting, supported and optimised through process and technology.

In this role, you will work closely with the leadership team to optimise and grow the business through strong financial management and insight. Our business strategy is to bring teams together to cross-sell, unlock new markets, and develop integrated services, expanding client relationships and market share. Collaboration is therefore fundamental to our success. The role may also include oversight of smaller satellite operations of the Group which are based in Italy.

What success looks like in this role Ambiente srl will have a well‑governed, efficient, and resilient finance function, balancing critical divisional and A+ Corporate requirements with local performance and agility. The team will be high‑performing, engaged, and tech‑enabled. Financial reporting will be well designed, timely, and accurate.

You will build a strong understanding of the services, markets, and commercial dynamics of the business, enabling you to take a leading role in developing plans to optimise and grow EBITDA, as well as in budget setting, business cases, and accurate forecasting to support this.

You will become a trusted adviser to a range of stakeholders, acting as the first call when the business is making commercial decisions. Your opinion will be valued not only as a financial expert, but also for your ideas and support in broader business thinking.

Key Responsibilities

Work closely with the Ambiente Board and wider senior management team to understand and enhance the financial performance of the business.

Agree and implement financial reporting and governance processes that meet Corporate standards.

Deliver monthly P&L and balance sheet reporting.

Produce the pack for the Monthly Performance Review (MPR), including insightful analysis of divisional performance for reporting to the Board and Group Board.

Develop, report, and review divisional and KPI dashboards on a routine basis, including providing weekly or frequent pipeline, trading, and outturn updates.

Deliver the annual budget and quarterly outturn forecasting process in line with Corporate guidelines.

Prepare business cases to support capital or other investment decisions.

Support statutory reporting and tax activities in Italy, acting as the local lead while working with A+ Tax function and the Divisional Financial Controller as required.

Oversee the job costing model to support pricing optimisation, including financial sign‑off on tenders.

Oversee operational finance team activities in Italy, including AP, AR, payroll, and treasury, liaising with Divisional finance team as required.

Provide line management and mentoring to the Finance team, maintaining a culture of continuous improvement and quality assurance.

Improve and embed systems and processes that enable efficiency and control.

Support the successful integration of any acquisitions in Italy, including financial data and systems implementation as required.

Business partner with the wider Ambiente business, including project managers, and elevate emerging revenue, capacity, and WIP challenges to help drive resolution.

Take the lead finance partner role on certain strategic projects as agreed, working with the relevant Board director(s) and other senior stakeholders to manage delivery of the envisaged earnings growth and report progress through Board updates.

Carry out any additional activities that may reasonably be required or requested.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

Fluent in English and Italian

Qualified accountant with at least 5 years’ PQE in a commercially focused role

Experience of budget development, P&L, and KPI reporting in a professional services business

Strong analytical capability, including financial modelling and scenario planning

Proven effectiveness in a Finance Director or senior business partnering role in a fast‑growing business or business area

Experience working with stakeholders both above and below your role in a high‑growth, high‑change environment, with the confidence to challenge and act as a critical friend

Solutions‑focused, using commercial thinking to solve financial and business problems

Experience integrating a small to mid‑sized business into a wider Group

Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables, together with evidence of adopting tools to reduce effort and improve outputs

Strong presentation skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non‑financial stakeholders and support pragmatic business decision‑making

A genuine pride in the quality of your work and the support you provide to the projects delivered by your business area

Experience overseeing operational finance, treasury (including cash management), taxation, and statutory financial reporting

Business‑level Spanish

Experience working in a PE‑backed business, with exposure to pace and commercial rigour

Experience developing macros and deploying AI tools to enhance finance processes and outputs

A track record of identifying opportunities to support future growth and generate revenue
