Position: Mechanical Project Engineer Location: Milan, Italy (must be based local or willing to relocate) Project Type: Data Centre projects I am working with a large engineering firm who deliver large, technically complex projects across Europe. Right now, they are expanding their data centre delivery team and looking for a Project Engineer (Mechanical) who can translate design intent into real‐world installation without needing a small army or divine intervention. What You'll Actually Be Doing You'll be responsible for the day‐to‐day mechanical engineering activities on a major construction project. Some of it is coordination, some of it is investigative, and some of it is stopping avoidable issues from becoming expensive ones. Your role includes:

Pulling together design documents and drawings so the team isn't building from memory. Joining handover meetings — the moment where hopes, dreams, and actual scope collide. Identifying value‐engineering opportunities that reduce cost without reducing quality. Preparing coordinated drawings across mechanical, electrical, sprinkler, architectural, and structural disciplines. Reviewing design specs, technical submittals, and drawings to make sure they're compliant and buildable. Supporting weekly progress reports (the ones people actually read). Raising and tracking purchase orders, equipment deliveries, and receipts. Using RFIs to clarify anything vague, contradictory, or suspiciously optimistic in the design. Keeping an eye on project commercials: variations, take‐offs, profit plans — because engineering doesn't happen in a vacuum. Working closely with designers, contractors, and your own project team to resolve technical and commercial issues early. Attending technical meetings and, occasionally, mediating them. Managing document control using File Key — yes, it matters. Preparing method statements and risk assessments that are accurate and reflect what's happening on site. Coordinating subcontractors so everyone installs the right thing in the right place at the right time. Carrying out inspections, snagging, and P& ID/layout walkdowns. Populating and tracking test packs like the project depends on it (because it does). Protecting sensitive information Who Thrives in This Role You'll fit right in if you:

Understand the dance between design, procurement, and installation. Enjoy problem‐solving more than problem‐observing. Communicate well with everyone — from BIM modellers to site crews to commercial teams. Prefer a bit of structure but can handle the dynamic chaos of a live construction project. Want to build a career delivering some of the most complex data centre projects in Europe. Why our client? They are large enough to build some of the biggest and most demanding mission‐critical facilities in Europe — but small enough that your work matters, your voice is heard, and your development is intentional. You'll work with people who are skilled, collaborative, and grounded — no egos, no nonsense.
