Business Development Director – Italy (Country Manager) | Pharmaceutical Wholesale
A fast-growing European pharmaceutical group is launching in Italy and is looking for its first hire in the country, a Country Manager to build the market from the ground up.
This is a genuine greenfield opportunity. There's existing commercial traction (over €1m in sales last year, currently run from outside Italy), and your job is to bring it in-house, take ownership of the existing clients, and develop the market across hospitals, wholesalers and pharmacy groups.
You'll start hands-on as the only person on the ground, build your own go-to-market plan, then hire and lead a sales team. You'll have real autonomy to shape the strategy, backed by a collaborative group structure, portfolio, product and analytics colleagues across Europe who plug into your work.
What you'll do
- Take over and grow existing client relationships, becoming the new face in-market
- Develop new business across hospital, wholesaler and pharmacy channel
- Build a commercial plan tailored to the Italian market, region by region
- Hire, build and lead a sales team as the business scales
What you'll bring
- Around 8 years' commercial experience in pharmaceutical wholesale / distribution (parallel import/trade highly relevant; generics or biosimilars also a strong fit)
- An established network across Italian wholesalers, hospitals and pharmacy groups - you know the people who make decisions
- A track record of developing a sales channel and building or leading a team
- Italian mother tongue and fluent business English (essential)
- Comfort with modern, digital ways of working and collaborating remotely across a European group
