For more information, please visit about.springernature.com and follow @SpringerNature.About the RoleWe are seeking an Associate Editor or Editor to join our Books team in Milan, focusing on a portfolio in Mathematics, with a particular emphasis on Computational Science and Engineering (CSE).In this role, you will manage and develop a portfolio of academic books, working closely with authors, researchers, and internal stakeholders. You will play a key role in identifying emerging topics, acquiring new content, and shaping the strategic direction of the portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong interest in academic publishing and mathematics to contribute to the growth of a high-quality publishing programme.Role ResponsibilitiesPortfolio development: Identify emerging trends in CSE and mathematics to grow and shape the book portfolioContent acquisition: Solicit, evaluate, and develop book proposals, including managing peer reviewStakeholder engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with authors, researchers, and academic partnersEditorial collaboration: Work closely with internal teams and external contributors to develop the portfolioContract management: Negotiate publishing agreements with authorsAuthor support: Guide authors through manuscript preparation and developmentProduction coordination: Prepare manuscripts for handover and remain a key contact throughout productionPerformance delivery: Contribute to achieving annual targets for contracts and publicationsRepresentation: Attend conferences and visit institutions to expand networks and promote the portfolioExperience, Skills & QualificationsEssentialBachelor’s degree (preferably in a relevant field)Excellent written and spoken EnglishStrong organisational skills and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple projects and prioritiesStrong communication and relationship-building skillsProactive and solution-oriented mindsetAbility to work both independently and collaborativelyWillingness to travel for conferences and meetingsFor Editor level:Proven experience in a similar editorial or publishing roleDesirableDegree or PhD in mathematics or a related STEM field, ideally within CSEExperience in academic publishing (books or journals)Experience in building academic networks or communitiesLeadership or team management experienceTo apply, please submit a CV and a cover letter outlining your key ambitions in the role, including your salary expectations and notice period.At Springer Nature, our mission is to be part of progress – and that begins with inclusion: of people, perspectives, and ideas.
