Global Travel Management Specialist - Internship
Within the Procurement organization the Unit of Travel is responsible for overseeing, optimizing, and coordinating the organization’s global travel program from a procurement and governance perspective. The Head of Travel leads a team of Generali employees and externals and reports directly to the Group Chief Procurement Officer of Generali Group.
The Interim Global Travel Management Specialist will support the unit by ensuring that travel policies, supplier relationships, booking processes, and cost‑management initiatives are fully aligned with corporate objectives, while providing employees worldwide with safe, efficient, and compliant travel experiences.
Key Responsibilities Travel Program Governance & Strategy
- Support the execution of the global travel strategy in alignment with procurement policies and corporate objectives
- Oversee adherence to the company’s global travel policy and recommend updates based on industry trends and business needs
- Manage relationships with key travel suppliers (TMCs, airlines, hotels, ground transportation, booking technology providers, credit card providers)
- Support or lead RFPs, contract negotiations, and supplier performance reviews for travel-related services
- Monitor service-level agreements and escalate issues when needed to ensure service quality and performance
Operational Travel Management
- Oversee day-to-day travel operations in collaboration with internal teams and the Travel Management Company
- Resolve escalations related to booking processes, traveler issues, or supplier service failures
- Provide expert guidance to employees regarding booking tools, procedures and travel policies
- Check market options to confirm that the most competitive rate has been applied
Data, Reporting & Cost Optimization
- Analyze travel spend data to identify savings opportunities, inefficiencies and compliance gaps
- Prepare regular management reports on travel KPIs, spend trends, supplier performance and policy compliance
- Recommend and implement cost-optimization initiatives (e.g., preferred supplier utilization, travel pattern reviews, demand management…)
Requirements Functional (IT)
- Highly desired: Experience with procurement within the travel industry
- Consultative skills and ability to interact at senior level within Generali and within the industry
- University level degree or comparable
Professional/Managerial
- Problem‑solving and analytical skillset
- Communication skills and ability to manage a wide array of different stakeholders
- Strong operational focus, ability to drive topics and deliver results even under pressure and time constraints
- Fluent English, another European language is a plus
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (data analysis, reporting, formulas) and strong skills in developing clear, well‑structured presentations using PowerPoint
