Role Overview
Lecturer, Pure Mathematics – UNSW Sydney. Full‑time, 35 hours per week, fixed term of 2 years. Salary $127 K–$150 K plus superannuation and annual leave loading.
Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research in pure mathematics, aligned with the School’s research strengths, and publish in influential scholarly journals.
- Prepare grant proposals for national competitive grant agencies and other funding bodies.
- Develop and maintain research collaborations within the School, with other campus groups, industry, and international partners.
- Disseminate research findings at seminars, conferences, and within the UNSW community.
- Supervise Honours and Master’s coursework projects, and PhD and Master’s research students.
- Design and deliver high‑quality teaching across undergraduate, Honours, and Master’s courses, using appropriate pedagogical methodologies and technologies.
- Participate in school activities, take on leadership roles, and mentor other staff.
- Undertake administrative duties as directed by the Head of School and contribute to committees.
- Engage with industry and the community to build relationships, secure industry funding, and participate in professional activities.
- Cooperate with health and safety policies and procedures and ensure a safe working environment.
Qualifications & Selection Criteria
- PhD or equivalent qualification in relevant mathematical sciences.
- Demonstrated research ability in pure mathematics, aligning with the School’s research directions.
- Evidence of effective teaching and student supervision.
- Strong publication record in top, peer‑reviewed journals.
- Capacity to produce high‑quality external grant applications.
- Experience supervising Honours, Master’s, and PhD students.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Track record of significant involvement with the profession and/or industry.
- Ability to work collaboratively, build relationships, and act in the School’s values.
- Commitment to health, safety, and participation in required training.
