Logistics Manager, Milan, Italy
Scope Of The Role
The Construction Site Logistics Manager is responsible for all aspects of the logistics supply chain, including the receiving of material, stores management, and the development and optimisation of site logistics solutions to meet the needs of the project. The role requires managing the movement of people, goods and equipment at the construction site and controlling site facilities management.
Key Responsibilities Of The Role
Ensure early engagement with the project planner, commercial managers procuring the works and the senior construction manager on the site.
Ensure that the construction team is fully aware of logistics activities in support of the build program.
Anticipate and proactively resolve issues using internal and external resources.
Discuss technical requirements and specifications.
Independently consolidate and analyse information from various sources to develop complex logistics plans.
Establish an off‑project staging area for intermediate deliveries if required.
Receive materials and carry out SAP transactions (goods receiving, etc.).
Attend daily & weekly coordination & planning meetings.
Ensure high‑risk activities such as plant/personnel interface & lifting operations are planned ahead with all stakeholders.
Planning & Programming
Use Lean principles for all planning.
Plan site set‑up with the pre‑construction team and input from the PM to move labour, plant, and materials around site efficiently, coupled with planning internal and external logistics routes through the project phases.
Pre‑plan the usage of key assets such as hoists to ensure planned assets meet the needs of the program and that project sequencing is considered to optimise positioning.
Supply Chain Management
Ensure that the project has key involvement in the smooth operation of the supply chain both upstream and downstream.
Programme Support
Embrace a delivery‑focussed culture.
Be responsible for ensuring logistics activities are not a constraining factor on the programme, where deemed unavoidable ensuring issues are communicated to facilitate de‑confliction.
Safety
Ensure the organisation’s safety policies are followed and enforce Mercury Safety ethos in all logistics activities.
Create, maintain, and update the Site Emergency Plan (including the Site Fire Plan) reporting to the appointed site fire officer.
Site Communications And Signage
Ensure an effective method of communication both verbal and visual, including the use of 2‑way radio systems; all signage must be accurate for information and communication.
Delivery Management
Ensure an effective system (Datascope) to manage and control sub‑contractor and vendor inbound deliveries to the project.
Vehicle, Plant, Equipment, And Vertical Transport
Ensure project‑based equipment is inspected, maintained, and tested to agreed frequencies.
Implement and regularly utilise a competency test/checklist on plant handlers to ensure compliance with MER policy and EHS.
Maintain an asset register of all equipment in collaboration with Group Procedures & SOPs.
Security
Ensure all access control and security measures are implemented and managed to protect the project and personnel from external interference.
Environmental
Create, maintain, and regularly update the Site Waste Management Plan to ensure the safe and efficient removal of waste from the project.
Create, maintain, and regularly update project, commercial and group materials management for removal of scrap metals (ferrous and non‑ferrous) in accordance with SOP.
Problem Solving & Innovation
Frequently recommend and implement methods and procedures to improve safety, efficiency, quality, cost, etc. within scope of role.
Determine how to approach solve problems where information comes from a variety of sources and may not be readily available.
Think through multiple alternatives and potential consequences to determine and communicate best outcome.

Essential Criteria For The Role
Directly related progressive experience with a successful track record of ensuring that cost‑effective, quality goods and equipment are delivered on‑time to meet business requirements.
Previous experience in Construction Operations.
Degree or tertiary qualification in a related field or equivalent work experience.
Computer literate – Microsoft Office.
Desirable Criteria
Knowledge of international procurement, logistics and industry practices, laws, and regulations.
SAP Software System experience.
