MEP Lead – Data Centres

Location: Milan, Italy Overview A leading international data centre contractor is seeking an experienced MEP Lead to join its project delivery team in Milan. This role will take ownership of the mechanical and electrical delivery across a large-scale hyperscale data centre project, ensuring all MEP works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Working closely with project management, engineering, design, and construction teams, the successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary MEP teams, coordinate subcontractors, drive programme delivery, and oversee all aspects of installation, quality, commissioning readiness, and project execution. Role Responsibilities Lead and manage a team of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers across the project lifecycle. Oversee the delivery of all MEP packages, ensuring works are completed safely, on schedule, and to the required quality standards. Coordinate closely with project managers, construction managers, site engineers, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure efficient project execution. Review design documentation and identify opportunities for value engineering, programme optimisation, and construction efficiency improvements. Ensure all drawings, specifications, and technical documents are reviewed and understood by project teams. Manage interfaces between mechanical, electrical, CSA, and commissioning teams to minimise programme risks. Monitor installation quality and workmanship across all MEP disciplines. Support procurement activities, package management, contractor selection, and technical evaluations. Develop and manage project resource plans, workforce requirements, and delivery strategies. Drive a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental requirements. Support commissioning planning, testing activities, and project handover processes. Provide regular reporting on project progress, risks, commercial impacts, and key milestones. Requirements Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline. Proven experience leading MEP delivery on large-scale construction projects. Previous data centre project experience is essential. Strong understanding of MEP systems including power distribution, cooling infrastructure, HVAC, fire protection, and associated building services. Experience managing subcontractors, procurement activities, and package delivery. Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, scheduling, and programme management. Ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills. Familiarity with commissioning processes and mission-critical environments would be advantageous.
