Director of Engineering

Baccarat Hotels is preparing to unveil its next iconic destination in the heart of Rome—where timeless craftsmanship, design excellence, and elevated hospitality converge.

As Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing all technical, maintenance, and engineering operations of the hotel. From pre-opening planning and project coordination through to day-to-day operations, you will ensure that all building systems perform to the highest standards of luxury hospitality.

Working closely with the developer, project teams, and hotel leadership, you will play a key role in the transition from construction to operations—ensuring a seamless handover and a strong foundation for the hotel’s future performance.

• Lead all engineering and maintenance functions during pre-opening and ongoing operations
• Act as the primary liaison between ownership, developers, contractors, and hotel operations teams
• Oversee commissioning, testing, and handover of all building systems including HVAC, MEP, BMS, life safety, and energy systems
• Ensure full compliance with local laws, regulations, and statutory requirements, including safety, environmental, and building codes
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs and asset management strategies
• Establish engineering budgets, CAPEX planning, and cost control measures
• Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing engineering team
• Drive sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives aligned with brand standards

• Proven experience as a Director of Engineering (or similar senior role) within luxury or lifestyle hotels
• Strong pre-opening experience, ideally working closely with developers and project teams
• Deep technical knowledge of hotel engineering systems (HVAC, MEP, BMS, energy management, life safety)
• Strong understanding of local building codes, compliance frameworks, and regulatory requirements in Italy (Rome preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to transition assets from construction to full hotel operations
• Commercially astute with experience in budgeting, CAPEX, and cost management
• Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence across ownership, development, and operations stakeholders
• Highly organised, solutions-driven, and comfortable in a fast-paced pre-opening environment
• Fluency in English preferred; Italian is a must
