VOLT Infrastructure is a company operating in Italy in the development and delivery of utility-scale renewable energy projects, with a strong focus on Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
The company is integrated across the entire project lifecycle, from land identification and early-stage development through engineering, permitting, EPC contracting, construction, and delivery.
Our engineering team plays a central role in ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and optimization of project performance, working within structured and standardized processes that are key to our success.
Role Purpose
The Electrical Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the end-to-end technical design of utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects.
The role combines hands-on engineering activities with technical leadership, covering preliminary design, detailed engineering, grid integration, due diligence, and construction support, ensuring high-quality, optimized, and bankable project designs.
The position is based in Rome.
Key Responsibilities
Preliminary & Conceptual Engineering
Define plant layout for PV and BESS projects
Develop overall electrical design strategies and design confirmation (STMG phase)
Select and evaluate key technologies (modules, inverters, trackers, BESS systems)
Coordinate yield assessments (e.g., PVsyst) and feasibility studies
Perform constraint analysis and preliminary design optimization
Define grid connection solutions and technical strategies
Detailed Electrical Engineering
Oversee preparation of executive engineering documentation for permitting and construction phases
Support pre-construction 'secondary permitting' process with definitive designs.
Lead and coordinate detailed electrical design activities
Develop Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) for MV/HV systems
Perform MV/HV electrical sizing and system optimization
Integrate civil and electrical design inputs
Ensure design consistency across all engineering disciplines
Grid Integration & Connection Process
Manage and support grid connection processes with Terna and e-Distribuzione
Support grid capacity analysis and connection feasibility studies
Ensure compliance with TSO/DSO requirements and grid codes
Interface with authorities through dedicated portals and procedures
Technical Due Diligence
Prepare and review technical documentation for investment and financing purposes
Support data room preparation for lenders and investors
Interface with independent engineers and stakeholders
Conduct technical site inspections and feasibility assessments
Review due diligence reports and ensure compliance verification
Cross-Functional & Leadership Responsibilities
Define and maintain internal technical standards and engineering best practices
Manage external engineering consultants and technical advisors
Support and mentor junior electrical engineers, ensuring technical growth and quality of output
Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and design optimization
Requirements
Degree in Electrical Engineering or Energy Engineering
5–10 years of experience in utility-scale Solar PV and/or BESS projects
Strong knowledge of MV/HV electrical design and grid connection processes
Experience with PV plant design and energy storage system integration
Proficiency in engineering and simulation tools (e.g., AutoCAD, PVsyst, PVcase, QGIS)
Solid understanding of Italian permitting and regulatory framework
Fluency in Italian and English
Experience with EPC processes and construction-site support is considered a strong advantage
Availability for occasional travel
Registration in the Italian Register of Engineers (or eligibility)
