About the Role
The Market Research Manager, under the overall guidance and direction of the Lead Market Research Manager, is accountable for managing market research projects, playing a key role in the formulation of UNICEF and PFP strategies, supporting the operationalizing of insights across UNICEF, and ensuring the growth in effective use of audience and market insight for all relevant audiences.
This position will help increase UNICEF fundraising net revenues, private sector engagement and both communication and advocacy effectiveness by designing, conducting and interpreting research to produce insights that ignite decision making within Fundraising and Communications. It will influence and make recommendations for key teams in HQ functions and in key markets.
Responsibilities
The role holder is responsible for establishing research plans, contributing to the AMI general strategy, and overseeing work progress to ensure the achievement of goals according to plans, resource allocation, strategies, and through collaboration that meets the requirements from the UNICEF Competency Framework as well as our organizational values.
The role holder will have particular responsibility for strategic recommendations for mass audience and brand focused teams when delivering audience insight work, and responsibilities in decision making concerning AMI funds and human resources that have significant impact on mass audience and brand related projects.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in one of the following fields is required: sociology, business, marketing, or market research. A Bachelor or equivalent in a relevant area combined with 2 additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
- Work Experience: 8 years of relevant work experience is required, of which at least 4 years’ experience working in a communications, boutique insights and strategy, or marketing agencies in an insights‑specific role is required.
- Skills: Strong experience in data analysis and translating data into actionable insights is required. Deep understanding of how to apply insights in a multifaceted, global organization to drive meaningful action is required. Proven experience navigating multi‑stakeholder environments and achieving alignment and consensus is required. Strong command of quantitative, qualitative, and secondary research methodologies, with full research method neutrality is required. Demonstrated experience leveraging AI and LLMs to optimize audience insights functions is required.
- Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.
Desirables
- Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
- Relevant experience in UN/UNICEF/international organization.
- Experience in fundraising context.
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
