Position Summary The Superintendent at Costello Construction is responsible for the overall on-site management of commercial construction projects from inception through final completion. This role leads all field operations, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in strict accordance with contract documents.The Superintendent serves as the primary liaison between the field and office, driving coordination, communication, and accountability across all trades and project stakeholders.Key Responsibilities Field Leadership & Project ExecutionOversee all on-site construction activities and ensure continuous supervision of workEnforce project schedule and coordinate daily field operations to maintain progressMaintain a thorough understanding of contract documents and ensure all work compliesProactively identify and communicate delays, conflicts, or budget impacts to the Project ManagerManage trade foremen and subcontractors to ensure productivity, quality, and accountabilityAssist in the scheduling and coordination of Costello Construction’s self‑performed work. This entails manpower and equipment allocation, the procurement and provision of materials, and assistance in quality control.Scheduling & PlanningImplement and actively manage the project CPM schedule in the fieldPrepare and distribute detailed 2‑week look‑ahead schedulesParticipate in schedule updates and understand sequencing, durations, and critical pathDevelop and execute site logistics and staging plans to prevent conflicts and delaysSite Mobilization & LogisticsCoordinate all mobilization activities including:Pre‑construction site documentation (photos/video)Field office setup (trailers, utilities, equipment)Survey coordination and site verificationTemporary facilities (sanitary, dumpsters, etc.)Ensure proper traffic control plans are developed and implemented when requiredDocumentation & Project ControlsMaintain complete and organized on‑site project files in accordance with company standardsManage and track all field documentation, including:RFIs, submittals, transmittals, and change ordersDaily reports and subcontractor reportsInspection logs and permit trackingMaintain accurate and up‑to‑date as‑built drawings (daily updates required)Thoroughly document project progress with weekly photos and/or videoQuality ControlEnsure all work meets or exceeds contract documents and quality standardsLead pre‑installation meetings to confirm scope, specifications, and manufacturer requirementsOversee mock‑ups and sample installations to avoid rework or delaysAssume quality control responsibilities when a dedicated Quality Control Manager is not assignedSafety ManagementMaintain a safe, clean, and organized job site at all timesEnforce all company and regulatory safety standardsConduct and document weekly toolbox talksParticipate in safety inspections and immediately address any issuesEnsure subcontractor compliance with all safety requirementsInspections, Permits & ComplianceSchedule and coordinate all required inspectionsEnsure all permits are in place prior to work Maintain inspection records and documentation on siteObtain Certificates of Occupancy in a timely mannerEnsure compliance with environmental and erosion & sediment control requirementsSubcontractor & Trade CoordinationUnderstand and enforce all subcontractor scopes of workCoordinate trades to prevent conflicts and ensure workflow efficiencyAssist with coordination of Costello Construction’s self‑performed workLead weekly subcontractor coordination and safety meetings, including:Progress reviewUpcoming work planningIssue resolution and coordination challengesEnsure subcontractors submit complete and accurate daily reportsProject CloseoutLead punch list development and completion (internal and official)Coordinate final inspections and approvalsAssist in preparation and delivery of closeout documents, including:As‑builtsO&M manualsWarranties and permitsEquipment & Site ManagementOversee all company equipment on-site, ensuring proper use, maintenance, and returnMaintain site security and ensure the project is secured dailyEnforce jobsite cleanliness and subcontractor cleanup responsibilitiesQualificationsOSHA 30 Certification (required; company‑supported)Applicable erosion & sediment control certification (as required by jurisdiction)Strong knowledge of commercial construction practices, scheduling, and safety standardsProven ability to lead teams and manage multiple trades effectivelyExcellent communication, organization, and problem‑solving skillsWhat We Expect At Costello Construction At Costello Construction, we are committed to delivering high-quality projects through teamwork, accountability, and a relentless work ethic.
