The English language research group of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Verona (Italy) invites scholars to present expressions of interest in applying jointly with Roberta Facchinetti for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA-PF) on TRANSEDITING NEWS DISCOURSE IN THE ERA OF CONVERGENCE.

Through the centuries, journalism has witnessed shifts and turns particularly with reference to ‘who’ has been conveying news, namely its producers and purveyors, and ‘how’ news has been conveyed, namely its modes and channels. In journalism, the issue of 'who' does 'what' and 'how' involves a close interplay between text, co-text, technological developments and lingua-cultural background. Bearing in mind both mainstream and independent news-sharing platforms featuring international news, the project should focus on the way news content is translated and transedited in English for the delivery to audiences from diversified lingua-cultural backgrounds. Within the framework of both corpus-based and qualitative discourse analysis research, attention should be dedicated to how news content is disseminated across (multiple) platforms and modalities, as well as to how transediting may facilitate the exchange of content, perspective and opinion worldwide.

We are looking for applicants for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship to be presented with our English language research group of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures as main host institution.

Roberta Facchinetti is Full Professor of English language and linguistics at the University of Verona, Italy, where she has been teaching English for Journalism for over 20 years. Her main research interests, which are supported by the use of computerized corpora of both synchronic and diachronic English, focus on media linguistics and ESP. She has authored, co-authored and edited various articles, books and special issues of journals, including “Oppositional discourse in the digital transformation: A contrastive analysis between face-to-face and video-mediated interviews in English” (2023) and “News discourse and the dissemination of knowledge and perspective: From print and monomodal to digital and multisemiotic” (2021). She is the head of the English language research group within the Department of Foreign languages and literatures of the University of Verona.

Selected candidates will be offered both academic and administrative support from the Department and the University of Verona Grant Office with regard to the proposal preparation.
