Applied Scientist II - Gen AI/LLM, Translation Services Amazon Translations Services (TS) is seeking an Applied Scientist to be based in Seattle, Washington. As a key member of the Science and Engineering team, this person will design algorithmic solutions based on data and mathematics for translating billions of words annually across 130+ locales, ensuring minimal human touch and accurate translations. Key Job Responsibilities Apply expertise in large language models (LLMs) to design, develop, and implement scalable machine learning solutions for complex language translation challenges in e Commerce. Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including software engineers, data scientists, and product managers—to define project requirements, establish success metrics, and deliver high-quality solutions. Conduct thorough data analysis to gain insights, identify patterns, and drive actionable recommendations that enhance seller performance and customer experiences across international marketplaces. Continuously explore and evaluate state-of-the-art modeling techniques and methodologies to improve the accuracy and efficiency of language translation systems. Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, providing clear explanations and guidance on proposed solutions and their potential impact. About the Team The team embraces a start-up mindset. With ongoing development of long-term technical strategy, there is opportunity to innovate by leveraging Gen-AI technologies to build scalable solutions from scratch. Basic Qualifications 3+ years of building models for business application experience. Advanced degree (Ph D or Master’s) with at least 4+ years of experience in computer science, electrical engineering, machine learning, or a related field. Programming proficiency in Java, C++, Python, or a related language. Preferred Qualifications Experience using Unix/Linux environments. Professional software development experience. Ph D or equivalent research experience, or a Master’s degree with experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals. Experience in algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, or high-performance computing. Salary & Benefits Location: Seattle, Washington, USA. Annual base salary range: 142800.00-193200.00 USD. Compensation includes sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
