Key Job Responsibilities

  • Primarily first‑shift, but shift schedule may vary depending on production/processing/launch schedules.
  • Apply a deep understanding of a broad range of tools, equipment, and handling machinery to accomplish daily tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Uphold all safety requirements in all zones and work locations of responsibility.
  • Assist in the development of new and junior team members and adhere to standards and procedures.
  • Independently execute and prioritize work to meet production schedules.
  • Integrate and test the Kuiper satellite and various complex sub‑assemblies in a clean‑room and electrostatic discharge (ESD) controlled environment.
  • Rig and conduct critical lifts of bulky, sensitive flight hardware.
  • Obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits, and/or certifications as required.
  • Use precision calibrated tools – torque wrenches, multimeters, optical inspection devices, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Perform work according to procedures, specifications, and test instructions.
  • Run functional and environmental testing on units, including basic troubleshooting operations.
  • Use computer software programs for controlling tests.
  • Check and inspect work after completion to ensure engineering and quality standards are met per the drawing and work instruction requirements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to develop and document activities, including continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure an efficient, safe, and effective work environment.
  • Work overtime and weekends as required.
  • Shifts may vary depending on production/launch schedules.
  • Willing to perform extended travel up to 25% annually, domestically or internationally.

A Day in the Life

A Processing Technician will lead work to ensure junior technicians complete tasks and that procedures are followed, completing quality and operations on flight hardware integration processes. The position requires skill and experience in mechanical assembly, propellant loading, rigging, electrical checkouts, and satellite troubleshooting. You will be responsible for the majority of the most critical tasks to process and integrate the Kuiper satellite for launch, ensuring high quality, workmanship, and safety standards are adhered to daily.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift up to 49 pounds; stand/walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours; and to frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
  • Experience with precision torque, measurement, and inspection devices (e.g., automated/manual torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, profilometers, optical inspection devices, multimeters).
  • Experience in aerospace/launch, automotive, medical device, aviation, military, or other high‑reliability environments.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings, work instructions, and SOPs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive assembly operations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. passport.
  • Ability to comply with the Government of French Guiana vaccination requirements.
  • Pass Kennedy Space Center background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience completing complex tasks quickly with little to no guidance and reacting with appropriate urgency to situations requiring a quick turnaround.
  • 5+ years in mechanical, propulsion, pneumatic, and/or electrical assembly and test with spacecraft/launch vehicle(s).
  • Senior Technician experience in a high‑precision aerospace processing environment.
  • Experience with clean‑room environments and handling FOD/ESD‑sensitive flight hardware.
  • Significant experience with forklifts, cranes, rigging, and heavy equipment (certifications appreciated).

Compensation

Starting pay is $36.00 to $39.00 USD hourly (Merritt Island, FL). The base pay plus the highest available shift differential applies depending on your selected shift. You are eligible for overtime pay and performance bonuses, and Amazon offers additional benefits such as EAP, mental health support, a medical advice line, and 401(k) matching.
